About Maitland Shores Resort
Maitland Shores Resort sits on 300 acres of private waterfront land on the north shore of Lake Erie in Haldimand County, Ontario. The resort is located at 659 Port Maitland Road, just outside Dunnville, where the Grand River meets Lake Erie at one of the most productive stretches of freshwater coastline in southern Ontario.
The property has been welcoming campers, anglers, hunters, and outdoor enthusiasts to Lake Erie for over a decade. In that time, we have learned what guests actually need versus what sounds good on a campground brochure. The result is a resort built around real outdoor pursuits — fishing, boating, ATV riding, hunting, and camping — with the infrastructure to support extended stays and the space to make every site feel like your own.
With over 230 seasonal sites, a full-service marina on the Grand River, on-site ATV trail access, and direct waterfront positioning on Lake Erie, Maitland Shores offers a combination of activities and site quality that is genuinely rare in southern Ontario. Our staff lives and works on the property. We know these waters, these trails, and this land — and we are here from the moment you arrive to make sure your stay runs smoothly.
The 2026 season opens April 15 and runs through October 31. Online reservations through Campspot are open now.
RV Sites, Seasonal Camping & Glamping on Lake Erie
There are several ways to stay at Maitland Shores, depending on how long you plan to visit and what kind of setup works best for you. Every option puts you on or near the Lake Erie shoreline, within walking distance of the marina and within reach of the trail system.
Full-Hookup RV Sites
Our full-hookup RV sites include water, electric (30 amp and 50 amp, individually metered), and sewer connections. Sites are grassed, level, and spacious enough to accommodate large rigs — fifth wheels, Class A motorhomes, and extended trailers park here without trouble. Pull-through options are available for guests arriving with truck-and-trailer combinations or longer rigs that make back-in manoeuvring difficult.
Check-in is straightforward. Our staff is on the property during office hours and available for arrivals outside standard hours when needed. If you have a site preference or a specific hookup requirement, contact us ahead of time, and we will sort it before you arrive.
Full-hookup sites are available for weekend stays, week-long visits, and the full season. If you are coming for a single weekend, online booking through Campspot gives you immediate confirmation. If you are considering a longer stay or want to discuss site selection, call or email us directly.
Seasonal Camping on Lake Erie
Seasonal camping at Maitland Shores is one of the best-value decisions a southern Ontario outdoor family can make. With over 230 seasonal sites, this is one of the largest private seasonal campgrounds on Lake Erie in the province. Seasonal guests pay once for the season, set up their site the way they like it, and return as many weekends as they choose between April 15 and October 31.
Many of our seasonal guests have been returning to the same site for five, ten, or fifteen years. They know the property, they know the staff, and they know exactly what their summer is going to look like the moment they pull through the gate in spring. That level of familiarity is something you only get at a campground that takes long-term guests seriously.
Seasonal sites at Maitland Shores include full hookups, access to all resort amenities, and the same trail and waterfront access as transient guests. The difference is that your site is yours for the season — you can leave furniture, a deck setup, a kayak, and come back the next weekend without unpacking and repacking everything.
Seasonal site availability is limited and fills earlier each year. If you are interested in a seasonal lease for the 2026 season or beyond, contact us at info@rvparkontario.com as soon as possible. We maintain a waitlist when sites are full.
Cabin Rentals
Our cabin rentals offer a clean, comfortable, no-setup option for guests who want the outdoor experience without the equipment. Cabins are ready when you arrive — beds are made, you walk in and settle in. They are particularly popular with families who are introducing children to camping, couples on a long weekend, and guests who do not own an RV but want to spend real time at the resort rather than just day-tripping.
Cabins at Maitland Shores are not a compromise. They are a genuinely comfortable alternative to an RV site, with the same access to the resort grounds, the marina, the trails, and the waterfront as every other guest.
Glamping & Outdoor Lodging
For guests who want elevated outdoor accommodation — a real bed, temperature comfort, and a view worth waking up to — our glamping options deliver exactly that. Glamping at Maitland Shores has become increasingly popular with couples celebrating an occasion and families who want a genuinely memorable trip without roughing it.
Every glamping site at Maitland Shores puts you in the middle of the resort’s 300-acre property, with the same waterfront access and activities available to all guests. The difference is what you come back to at the end of the day.
Activities at Maitland Shores — Fishing, ATV, Hunting & More
Maitland Shores is not a campground where you park your RV and sit in a lawn chair looking at the site next to you. The property is built around four serious outdoor pursuits — fishing, ATV riding, hunting, and boating — plus the everyday pleasures of family camping on a large waterfront property. Here is what is available on the ground.
Fishing on Lake Erie & the Grand River
Lake Erie is one of the most productive walleye, yellow perch, and smallmouth bass fisheries in all of Ontario. Anglers plan specific trips to Port Maitland and the Dunnville area for the fishing alone, and Maitland Shores gives our guests direct access to both the lake and the Grand River without leaving the property.
Lake Erie fishing from our property is possible from shore, from our docks, and from boats launched at our marina. Walleye and perch are the primary targets for most anglers, with early spring and late fall producing the strongest runs. Smallmouth bass are active through the summer months and available across a wide range of water depths off the Lake Erie shoreline.
The Grand River at Port Maitland is a separate and respected fishery within Haldimand County. The river is known for walleye and northern pike, particularly in the stretch between Dunnville and the lake. Guests fishing the Grand River from our property are working some of the best river fishing access in this part of Ontario, with a marina to launch from and comfortable accommodations to come back to.
If you are not a boat angler, shore fishing from the resort is productive throughout the season. Our docks extend into the river and provide a stable platform for casting. Fishing licenses are required and available online through the Ontario government licensing portal before your trip.
Boating & Marina Access
Our on-site marina on the Grand River provides direct boat launch access into the river and out to Lake Erie. This is a genuine working marina — trailering a fishing boat, a pleasure craft, a pontoon, or a kayak is straightforward from our property. You do not need to find a public boat launch off-site and then drive back to camp.
Port Maitland is one of the few private marina access points on this section of the Lake Erie north shore. Getting on Lake Erie from our property gives you open water, productive fishing grounds, and the kind of boating experience that draws people to southern Ontario every summer. The Grand River from Port Maitland upstream toward Dunnville is also suitable for slower-paced boating, paddling, and river exploration.
Our marina is available to resort guests. If you plan to bring a boat, contact us ahead of time to confirm launch access and any seasonal conditions that might affect your plans.
ATV Trails & Off-Road Riding
Maitland Shores Resort is one of the few privately owned campgrounds in southern Ontario that offers genuine on-site ATV trail access. You can ride directly from your campsite. There is no loading the trailer in the morning, driving to a trailhead, unloading, riding, reloading, and driving back. You park, unhitch, set up camp, and ride from the property.
The trail system on the 300-acre property covers a mix of open field, light bush, and river-edge terrain. Open sections are suitable for beginning riders and for casual cruising between longer runs. Bush and river-edge sections offer more varied terrain for experienced riders who want something beyond flat ground. The surrounding Haldimand County area adds additional riding range for guests who want to explore further on longer day rides.
ATV access at Maitland Shores is a significant draw for riders who have struggled to find southern Ontario campgrounds that actually deliver trail-from-site access rather than just listing ATV as an amenity. If you are looking for an ATV-friendly campground in Ontario within a reasonable drive of the GTA, Hamilton, or Brantford, this is worth booking.
Ontario ATV regulations require a valid driver’s licence, vehicle registration under the Off-Road Vehicles Act, and minimum liability insurance of $200,000. Helmets are mandatory for all riders. Follow all posted speed limits and trail designations on the property.
Hunting — Deer, Goose & Duck
Haldimand County is productive hunting country. Our property and the surrounding land in the Port Maitland area provide access for deer, Canada goose, and duck hunting during their respective seasons. The Grand River marshes and the Lake Erie shoreline marshland attract strong waterfowl populations each fall, making this a genuinely worthwhile destination for hunters in southern Ontario.
Canada goose hunting in the Dunnville and Port Maitland area benefits from the agricultural fields and river corridors that funnel birds through Haldimand County on their fall migration. Duck hunting from the lake and river edge follows a similar pattern. Deer hunting on the property and surrounding Haldimand County land is available during the archery and firearm seasons.
Hunting access at Maitland Shores is offered to guests staying at the resort during hunting season. Specific access arrangements, current season details, and any property-specific rules should be discussed directly with our team before your trip. Contact us at info@rvparkontario.com or by phone to confirm what is available during your planned visit dates.
Family Camping & Tenting
Not every stay at Maitland Shores needs to be built around a specific outdoor pursuit. Our tent sites sit in quieter, shaded areas of the 300-acre property where the primary experience is slowing down — morning coffee by the water, afternoon time on the beach or in the pool, evenings around a campfire. The resort runs organized events throughout the season, and the playground, heated saltwater pool, volleyball and basketball courts, and open recreation areas mean families with children have more than enough to keep everyone occupied.
If you are introducing children to camping for the first time, or if you are looking for a family camping destination that does not require a northern Ontario expedition, Maitland Shores on Lake Erie delivers the classic Ontario camping experience within reach of most of the province’s major population centres.
Why Guests Return to Maitland Shores Year After Year
Guests who stay at Maitland Shores once tend to come back. The reasons are practical as much as emotional. Here is what regulars consistently point to when explaining why they book again.
What Makes the Difference | Why It Matters in Practice |
300 Acres of Private Property | You are not camping in a row of identical sites with neighbours two metres away. There is room to set up the way you want, with genuine space between you and the next site. Seasonal guests especially notice this. |
Genuine Waterfront on Lake Erie | Not “near” the water. Not “views of” the water. On the north shore of Lake Erie with direct access to the shoreline, the docks, and the Grand River from the property. |
On-Site Staff Who Live on the Property | Our team is here throughout the season. We know the property, the trails, the fishing conditions, and the access points better than any booking system can communicate. When something comes up, we handle it in person. |
Multiple Serious Activities in One Location | Fishing, ATV riding, hunting, boating, and family camping are all available from the same base. You do not need to plan around driving to different destinations. Everything is on the property or within a short distance. |
Easy Drive from Southern Ontario | Most of southern Ontario’s major population centres are within two hours. You spend the weekend at the resort, not in the car getting there and back. |
Seasonal Guests Who Keep Coming Back | Over 230 seasonal sites, many with guests who have held the same site for a decade. That kind of repeat is only possible at a property that delivers consistently. |
Full Season from April 15 to October 31 | The season covers spring walleye fishing, summer family camping and ATV season, and fall hunting and the walleye run — all from the same property. |
The Maitland Shores Experience — A Day at the Resort
A typical day at Maitland Shores does not look like a scheduled itinerary. It looks like what outdoor travel is actually supposed to be.
Morning at the resort often starts at the water. The walleye and perch bite on Lake Erie is strongest in the early hours, and anglers who want the best of it are on the water by six. If you are not fishing, mornings on the lake are still worth the walk down — the north shore is quiet before the day warms up, and the view across the water from the Port Maitland area is one of the genuinely good ones in this part of Ontario.
Midday tends to split between the water and the trails. ATV riders who want the full morning on the property can be back by noon, cooled down, and ready for lunch without having driven anywhere. Families with children gravitate toward the heated saltwater pool and the recreation areas after the morning’s outdoor activities, and organized events during peak season add structure for guests who want it.
Afternoons on Lake Erie stretch long in summer. There is always something to do — another run on the trails, a second trip to the water, a slow kayak on the Grand River, a walk around the 300-acre property. The resort is large enough that you can explore different parts of it on a single stay and not feel like you have covered the same ground twice.
Evenings at Maitland Shores are what campground evenings are supposed to be. Fires are permitted. The lake is visible. The noise level on a property this size does not build the way it does at smaller, denser campgrounds. Seasonal guests have their areas set up the way they like — chairs, lighting, their particular campfire routine — and the evening unfolds accordingly.
That is one day. Most guests stay longer and do more. But the shape of it — water in the morning, trails and activity through the day, fire in the evening — is the experience that brings people back to Maitland Shores on Lake Erie season after season.
Location — 90 Minutes from Toronto, 45 minutes from Hamilton
Maitland Shores Resort is located at 659 Port Maitland Road in Haldimand County, Ontario, just outside Dunnville, at the mouth of the Grand River on the north shore of Lake Erie. The address is Port Maitland, but most guests navigate to Dunnville and follow signs south toward the lake.
The drive from most of southern Ontario’s major population centres is straightforward and well within range of a Friday-evening departure. Roads into Port Maitland are maintained and suitable for towing. There are no narrow northern logging roads or remote gravel routes. You drive in, pull to your site, and you are set up.

Who Stays at Maitland Shores — Types of Guests We Welcome
Maitland Shores attracts a specific kind of guest: people who are coming to actually do something outdoors, not just exist near a body of water. Here is the breakdown of who we see at the resort and what brings them here.
Guest Type | What They Come For |
Seasonal RV Families | A home base for the entire summer. Same site, same neighbours, same routines from spring through fall. Over 230 seasonal sites, many held for multiple years in a row. |
Weekend Anglers | Early morning walleye and perch fishing on Lake Erie and the Grand River. Direct marina access. Serious fishermen who plan around the bite, not around resort activities. |
ATV & Dirt Bike Riders | Guests who want to ride from the campsite without loading a trailer and driving to a trailhead. On-site trail access on 300 acres, plus surrounding Haldimand County terrain. |
Fall Hunters | Waterfowl and deer hunters using the resort as a base during the Canada goose, duck, and deer seasons. Strong bird populations in the Grand River marshes and Lake Erie shoreline. |
Boaters & Pleasure Craft Owners | Guests trailering boats who want marina access to Lake Erie. Private launch, secure parking, and a comfortable campsite to return to after a day on the water. |
Families with Children | Pool, playground, organized events, plenty of space to move around. Close enough to southern Ontario cities that a long weekend does not require days of travel. |
Couples & Glampers | Cabin rentals and glamping options for guests who want the outdoor environment without full camping setup. Lake views, activities, and a comfortable place to sleep. |
