Looking for a waterfront site? We have sites right on the edge of the property, closest to Lake Erie and the Grand River. These are the most popular spots at the resort, and they book fast. If a waterfront site matters to you, reserve as early as you can.
The Heated Saltwater Pool
One of the most popular amenities at the resort is the heated saltwater pool. It is open throughout the camping season, from late spring through to early fall.
Saltwater pools are easier on the skin and eyes than traditional chlorine pools. That makes a real difference on a hot Ontario summer day when the kids want to spend hours in the water. The pool area includes a seating area for adults who want to watch from the shade.
Not a swimmer? The pool area is still a great place to sit, relax and enjoy the lake breeze. It is one of those spots at the resort where the whole family tends to end up at some point in the afternoon.
Water Activities — Swimming, Boating and Fishing
Maitland Shores sits right on the north shore of Lake Erie and the Grand River. The water is not just part of the scenery here. It is the main reason most guests come.
Swimming and Beach Access
Lake Erie has some of the warmest swimming water of any of the Great Lakes in summer. The resort is positioned on the north shore, where the water warms up quickly in June and stays comfortable through August. Guests swim from the beach directly in front of the resort.
Are you looking for a Lake Erie beach, Ontario experience without a two-hour drive? This is it. The resort sits right on the water, and the beach is accessible to all guests on the property.
Boating and Marina Access
Our on-site marina on the Grand River gives guests direct access to the river and Lake Erie. Whether you are launching a fishing boat, a pleasure craft or a Sea-Doo, getting on the water from here is simple. There is no need to find a public boat launch off-site.
Fishing from Shore, Dock and Boat
Lake Erie is one of the best walleye and perch fisheries in Ontario. The Grand River at Port Maitland is a well-known walleye and pike spot in Haldimand County. Guests can fish from the shore, from our docks, or from their own boat using the marina. The bite is strongest in spring and fall, but there is always something to catch here.
Outdoor Sports and Recreation
There is always something going on at Maitland Shores. For guests who want to stay active, the resort has a full range of outdoor recreation options.
- Volleyball court
- Basketball court
- Horseshoes
- Playground for children
- Wagon rides during peak season
- ATV and dirt bike trails on the 300-acre property
- Hiking and nature walks through the resort grounds
The ATV trail system is one of the most popular features for adult guests. Trails wind through open field, bush and river-edge terrain on the 300-acre property. You can ride directly from your campsite. No trailer loading needed.
For families with younger children, the playground and recreation courts are in a safe, well-maintained area of the resort. Parents can relax nearby while the kids are occupied.
Events, Parties and Social Gatherings
Maitland Shores runs a busy events calendar throughout the camping season. These are not just activities listed on a notice board — they are organized events that bring the resort community together.
Guests can expect:
- Live music nights during peak weekends
- Fireworks on holiday weekends
- Family-friendly events and organized games
- Wagon rides for children
- Seasonal celebrations and themed weekends
Planning something bigger? The resort has an indoor banquet hall available for private bookings. It is suited for wedding receptions, birthday parties, corporate gatherings and other group events. The hall can serve as a rain-proof backup for outdoor celebrations, too.
Not many campgrounds in Ontario offer a proper event venue on site. If your group needs that, Maitland Shores is one of the few places that can deliver it.

Final Thoughts:
Maitland Shores has a lot going on. Pool, fishing, ATV trails, marina, events, a beach on Lake Erie — it can feel like a long list when you read it. But when you are actually here, it does not feel overwhelming. It just feels like a good place to spend time outdoors. My advice? Do not try to do everything in one trip. Pick two or three things you actually care about — whether that is fishing the Grand River in the morning, letting the kids loose at the pool in the afternoon, or riding the ATV trails before dinner — and build your stay around those. The guests who enjoy Maitland Shores most are the ones who slow down and settle in, rather than rushing through the activities list. If you are considering a seasonal site, do not wait until spring. The best sites go early, and returning guests tend to claim theirs before the new year. Send us an email now and at least get your name on the list. See you at the lake.
